Luneta Seafarer’s Center Remains the Undisputed Haven for Filipino Seafarers

If there is one place in Manila that literally serves as a bastion of sustainability for the local maritime industry, it is no other than the Luneta Seafarer’s Center along T.M. Kalaw Avenue, the acknowledged convergence zone for Filipino seafarers of all ranks, ages, dialects, affiliations, or even belly sizes.



As the undisputed haven for Filipino seafarers, the Luneta Seafarer’s Center actually accounts for the employment of about 1,000 local mariners on a daily basis onboard international ocean-going vessels.

The place is practically an all-day, all-weather job fair venue where Filipino seafarers basically come to working terms with manning agencies or representatives of shipowners themselves for shipboard working stints.



It also helps that the Luneta Seafarer’s Center is now home to a total of 112 manning and shipping information booths which provide Filipino seafarers a variety of employment choices.

Making the site an even more viable job fair venue are the satellite offices of government agencies in charge of processing the employment documents and certification of Filipino seamen including the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), and the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
